Doctor Who / Merlin

So last night / this morning, kepp0xy and I finished Series 4 of Doctor Who. We marathoned the 7 eps we had left.

I... took it better than expected, I think. Journey's End was pretty devastating, but nothing even compares to what Doomsday did to me. 

What kills me is that Donna, who I adore, went back to the person she used to be, not the person she could have been, and WAS with the Doctor. She didn't think she was anything special. But she was. She was a wonderful person. She just couldn't see it. The Doctor could, and the people she met along her travels with him could, but she couldn't. And that kills me. Hopefully she'll become that person again.

But oh, god, the Doctor. He's alone, again. this show gives you a few happy moments (OMG ROSE/TEN 2.0!!!!!) but really, it thrives on the Doctors angst. He has to be one of the most heartbreaking characters ever created. Even though I know he'll get another Companion, it's still so heartwrenching and soul crushing to see him alone. Because he loves humanity, he loves life...he just loves. And to see him let go of something so precious to him, like his Companions, is so selfless and amazing, it kills me everytime. No matter who he has with him at any given time, he knows, HE KNOWS, that he'll have to give them up sooner or later. He is destined to be alone. And the fact that he puts himself through that no matter how much he knows it hurts, or can hurt, or will hurt, he still does it.

I suppose he's not entirely selfless though. He needs a companion. He needs someone with him to steady him and even guide him at times. He needs that reminder of humanity.
 
God, this show is so angsty.

We didn't watch the Christmas Special, though. so maybe next time.
 


And then to make up for that, Keppy introduced me to Merlin.

 To make up for what she made me go through, Keppy put on Merlin to repair the wounds of her ripping my heart from my chest. It kinda worked. i've only seen the first two eps, but i really like this show. its cute. and OMG GILES WHO'S NAME IS NOW UTHER AND I FIND THAT NAME UTTERLY RIDICULOUS AND I LOVE IT. But yes. Merlin is so cute (and i like it when his eyes flash. Thats very cool).  This show is A-Ok in my book. Its not soul-crushingly angsty like Who is, which is nice for a change. Arthur is an ass, but thats the kind of tv boyfriend i like. They're both so cute. And the girls are not annoying me, which is good. Gwen is so sweet. Haven't seen that much of Morgana, but she seems cool enough. Still. Giles ftw.

Nice observations about the Doctor... I never really thought about how each time he takes someone on, he has to accept that one day they'll be let off. Which is interesting when you consider that Donna and Rose threw around words like "forever". The Doctor knows forever doesn't exist. It may be their forever (IF ONLY) but it would never be his. T_T! *ANGSTFEST* Ah well. He's one for the ages, our lonely oncoming storm ♥

YAY MERLIN! no one can resist it's awesomeness. NO ONE. Can't wait til we get on. I hope you like how the shipping goes, o shipper extraordinaire ~

As for Arthur, I like his development. Actually I like all their development (except one character but we'll deal with that when the time comes XD!) they all grow and you can see it and they acknowledge it to each other and they're all BFFFFFF and awesome and wow. /fangasm

but yes, Who is an angstfest, and i can't believe you put me through that, you horrible person. he's immortal. no matter how much he adores his companion, he knows he'll have to lose them in some way, whether they die (and omg that's still heartbreaking), or they get torn away from him brutally (see series 2 and series 4). no matter what, he loses.

YOU HAVE MADE ME AN ADDICT. I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY WHEN YOU FIND ME DEAD ON THE STREET BECAUSE I'VE GONE THROUGH WITHDRAWL!!!

weee christmas special! it was not as epic as the finale T_T then again, that'd be hard to do...

he just needs to revive a time lord, is all. And and and then he can have a buddy. Stupid Master and his stupid ... suicide-esque maybe-false death. Then again, idk that the Master would've made a good companion. Too take-over-the-world-y.

as awesome as the xmas specials are, the season finales are pretty epic. (is it bad that i don't like the fact that it was Martha that got the awesomeness that was The Master's storyline? (and the hotness that is the running of Ten and Jack?))

yes, agreed! Xmas specials just kinda... nicely bookend each season, and are nice because they don't really have the companion (exception being the first one when rose was still around). I'd like to start a post where people discuss companions dealing with other situations... It would've been really, really interesting to see if Rose could've handled going all over the globe and stuff... or what would have happened.

agreed. Xmas specials kinda nicely wrap up the season without a lot of angst. Some angst, but not a lot. What do you mean, Rose travelling the globe? You mean without the Doctor?

Yeah, like in the "year that never was" when Martha had to go be all soldiery and spread the word about the Doctor. I can't really imagine Rose doing that, so I dunno what they'd've done instead, ya dig?

Then again, Rose ala Turn Left, Stolen Earth & Journey's End was way more badass, but in a different way, so IDK *thinks*

I KNOWWWW IT'S AWFUL. But ya know what? It's weird, but I've watched every episode at least 3 times and they don't get old. I don't expect us to do that (maybe), but I could dump them onto your new computer or smth and you'd have them. They really are just that good. Hell, I watched the finale 3 times on the same day it aired - I really don't usually do that. *BLAH BLAH BLAH* on the up & up, they've definitely been picked up for a second season, due to air Sept 2009 =D and we can NCIS it up to tide us over.

Ah, i see what you mean now. idk, Rose was pretty awesome. But you're right, I'm not sure if Donna could have done it either.

LOLZ. I really don't mind re-watching eps. I do it all the time. Like, ALL the time. for multiple shows. hee. I would LOVE to have them, but it would also be kinda weird. It's something that we watch togetherrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. but YAY second season!!!

actually... i don't know when all the shows start up again. Soon i hope.
