so... the olympics are over...
Sunday I braved it, and I went downtown to watch The Game.
And it was insane.
skullycat , kaeda and i were practically crushed on the sidewalk at one point. but we escaped, managed to pull back from the crowd and cross the street, to walk on the other side, where it wasn't nearly as insane. go figure. we lost Kieran in the crowd, but we found him again on the other side of the street, which was a good thing, because he was carrying the stroller. He left to go find the guys, and Karen and I took a short walk to see if we could find a tv we could actually see. and we did. around the corner, right outside the CTV building.
So that was fun. People crowded the area, watching the game, people would cheer randomly, strangers would come up to us and ask us what the score was... it was great!
Karen's mom met up with us during the... third period, i think, and we left the crowd before OT started, as we had to find a place to change the baby. We found a mall close by, and managed to watch the Final Period at a food court with a tv, and a bunch of other people.
Downtown was pretty crazy after that. Maaaaaaaaaassssssssssssive crowds of people cheering, celebrating... it was an amazing thing to see and sort of be a part of. it was insane, in a good way.
We were advised by a cop not to take our little one down certain streets, because the crowds were 'stupid', so we took the long way around to get to the skytrain station.
also? the skytrain was stupid full, but it was ok. and it was kind of funny, because closer to home, i noticed we were on the same train as Kyle, Jamieson, Rueben and Mai.
I got home, had a nice shower, then hung out with
timeblind and
kepp0xy . they picked me up, and we walked through the Ozone, then went on the Ferris Wheel.
Ok, so when we were standing in line, we heard people (girls) screaming bloody murder on the ride, and were all, pffffffffft, whatever. (even though we did notice it was going pretty fast).
i've never actually been on a ferris wheel before. and i'm also kind of afraid of heights.
So the three of us squished into one seat, and... yeah. it was fun and terrifying at the same time. We Survived the Ferris Wheel of Dooooooom!
Then we had dinner with this guy Vikki and I met a few years back, and every so often wants to hang out. So we graced him with our presence and had sushi with him in Steveston. it was.... interesting.
Afterwards, he left, and
kepp0xy and I joined
timeblind at her work to watch her to her latte art and drink free decaf lattes! i had 3...
but it was a good night, spent with good people, and fun times were had!!
Quite a few people have stated that they miss the olympics already, and i have a feeling that downtown is going to seem very quiet now that the olympics are gone. i'm not saying its a bad thing, or a good thing, but i'll sure be different.
what a difference 2 weeks can make.
3 Olympic Records were broken by Canada this year. Damn, I love being Canadian!!
